How to Care for Rudraksha
Keep your sacred Rudraksha beads durable, lustrous and crack-free with proper periodic washing, oiling, and storage. From Rudraa Ratna.
Why Organic Seeds Require Moisture & Oil Balance
Rudraksha is a botanical seed. If starved of natural oil or exposed to dry artificial air-conditioning, the woody fiber can dry out and develop surface cracks.
Monthly Cleaning: Warm Water & Soft Brush Technique
Soak the bead in lukewarm water for 15 minutes to soften trapped dust. Use a soft baby toothbrush to clean the mukhi clefts gently.
The Art of Oiling: Mustard vs Sandalwood Oil
Apply 1–2 drops of pure unadulterated mustard oil or sandalwood oil with a clean brush to nourish the cellular structure and impart a rich dark sheen.
Protecting from Synthetic Soaps and Alcohol Sprays
Chemical body washes, swimming pool chlorine, and alcohol perfumes strip the seed's natural moisture, leading to premature brittleness.
Respectful Nighttime Storage Practices
When removed, store your beads inside clean natural wooden boxes or red velvet pouches on your prayer altar.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I oil my Rudraksha?
Oiling once every 1 to 2 months is ideal. Do not over-saturate; 1–2 drops brushed evenly is sufficient.
What if my Rudraksha develops a crack?
Minor natural surface lines are normal. If a bead splits completely in half or a mukhi segment detaches, retire the bead respectfully in running water.
Can I dry my Rudraksha with a hair dryer?
No! High artificial heat will crack the organic shell. Always air-dry naturally on a clean cotton towel.
